Delve into the TCiNN LEAP (Library Explorer Adventure Pack Program)

In 2023, the Rio Grande Valley launched its first Nature Smart Library Lending Backpack program, in coordination with local libraries, Texas Parks and Wildlife, Driscoll Health Plan, and Texas Children in Nature Network. Since then, 60 backpacks have been deployed across eight libraries in Hidalgo and Cameron County, giving families access to ten different themed nature exploration backpacks. Each pack is designed for use by the whole family, with both adult and children-friendly books, guides, activities, and tools, as well as information on how to keep healthy and safe outdoors. Each pack also works as a pass to local state parks, providing two free adult entries with the use of the pack.
In this webinar, learn how the Library Explorer Adventure Pack program was developed, the components, the partnerships, and how the program works. Also included in the presentation is information about other nature pack library programs across the country, as well as information on other nature smart library program ideas that can tie into the LEAP packs. By the end of the program, you will have all the resources you need to develop your own LEAP or Nature Pack Lending program.
Marisa Oliva-Rodriguez is a native Texan, transplanted from San Antonio to the floodplains of Rio Grande Valley. Managing the Edinburg Scenic Wetlands and World Birding Center from 2004 until recently, Oliva-Rodriguez has spent her career helping children and families connect to nature through innovative programming and the creation of beautiful outdoor spaces. A graduate of Texas A&M University and Pennsylvania State University, she is raising two young naturalists with her husband Roy.
