Prescribing Nature: The Health Benefits of Time Outdoors and the Rise of Austin Parks Rx Programs
April 28, 2027 2pm
Webinar with Jill Habegger-Cain, Austin Parks and Recreation
A Parks Rx program is an innovative approach that encourages individuals to spend time in nature to improve physical and mental health. Rooted in the idea that parks, trails, and green spaces offer natural solutions to many health problems, the program involves healthcare providers "prescribing" time outdoors. These prescriptions encourage patients to engage in outdoor activities to prevent or treat health conditions.
During this webinar, participants will leave with ideas on how to develop a Parks Rx program, including resources and establishing partnerships. The session will share metrics from an informal partnership with UT Austin Dell Medical School Pediatric Residency Program on healthcare providers feelings and beliefs after implementing and prescribing time outdoors to youth.
