Embracing Nature: Integrating Outdoor Learning Principles into Education

April 11, 2026 10am

Virtual Teacher Workshop with Emily Smith, Cibolo Center for Conservation

This session offers educators innovative, practical strategies for integrating nature-based learning into early childhood settings. Participants will explore some of the key elements of authentic nature-based experiences—including sit spots, loose parts, and environmental stewardship.

Through demonstration of hands-on activities and reflective discussion, attendees will experience how nature can foster creativity, resilience, and curiosity in young learners. The session will also address realistic ways to incorporate nature into daily routines, including strategies for bringing nature indoors when access to outdoor spaces is limited.

Participants will leave with the ability to articulate the benefits of students being outdoors. With simple and practical ideas, participants will be ready to bring nature-based education principles back to the classroom environment.
