Eco-Engineers: STEM + Design Thinking with Outdoor Learning

January 24, 2026 10am

Virtual Teacher Workshop with Elizabeth Harper, EcoRise

How can the outdoors serve as both a classroom and a catalyst for innovation? In this interactive webinar, EcoRise will introduce Design Studio, an open-source curriculum that blends design thinking with engineering practices to inspire meaningful outdoor learning in K-12 spaces. Together, we’ll explore strategies for guiding students as they identify real-world assets and challenges in natural spaces, generate and prototype creative solutions, and test and refine their ideas.

Educators will come away with a practical framework for weaving the design-build cycle into nature-based programming. Along the way, participants will discover how this approach cultivates student agency, strengthens problem-solving and collaboration skills, and fosters deeper connections to sustainability and stewardship through hands-on, place-based projects.
