Exploring Nature's Classroom: Sensory Science for Diverse Learners
February 8, 2025 10am
Virtual Teacher Workshop with Heather Kuhlken, Founder & Executive Director and Jo Joly, Program Manager, Families in Nature
Join Families in Nature as we explore our PEEP (Park Environmental Education Project) program, which provides custom, accessible, experiential education resources tailored to schools and green spaces across the U.S. This webinar will showcase our Ecologist School Pocket Guides, featuring 64 engaging lessons across 16 branches of science, from botany and climatology to astronomy and anthropology. Designed for all ages, our activities require minimal materials and prior knowledge, making them perfect for fostering a love of learning outdoors in any community setting.
Participants will dive into a sensory science curriculum as we demonstrate how to connect students with nature through tactile, auditory, olfactory, and kinesthetic experiences, fostering deeper scientific understanding and environmental stewardship. Attendees will learn adaptable strategies for implementing sensory-rich programs in their own educational environments, promoting inclusivity and accessibility in outdoor learning. Join us to discover how simple, nature-based activities can enhance science education for diverse learners and leave with valuable take-home materials and techniques to inspire collaboration among educators and caregivers.
